UV Protect is the first barrier cream to successfully make use of modern micro pigments (diam. 10-50 nm) of titanium oxide and zinc oxide. These micro-pigments offer extremely high factors in UV-filtration, reflection, and absorption (energy disbursement) over the entire spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC. Because of their small size, these particles are no longer visible but appear transparent, thus they are highly acceptable from a cosmetic point of view. The substances are also inorganic, and are considered dermatologically and toxicologically harmless. Older sun bloc preparations make extensive use of organic filter substances, which are now considered dermatologically questionable. In places like Japan certain concentrations of these substances are already prohibited.

What is the Nature of UV-Radiation

UV-radiation are electromagnetic waves on the short end of visible light. They are classified as UV"A" (315-380 nm) UV"B" (280-315 nm) and UV"C" (100-280 nm). The sun is the best known natural source of this radiation but artificial sources like high-tech pressure lamps for curing lacquer, printing inks, photocopy equipment, and film exposure methods, and welding arcs are recognized hazards

How Does UV-Radiation Damage Skin

UV-A effects tanning of the skin through the production of melanin; it can also cause photosensitivity and light-dermatitis, premature aging of the skin. Constant exposure may cause ceratitis and cancers. UV-A penetrates the skin deeper than B+C but does not have as much energy. UV-B causes sunburns and the possibility of skin cancer. UV-C as the radiation with the highest energy level is extremely dangerous because it destroys skin cells and causes cancerous growths.
